Info on circuit

This design utilises the Maxim MAX233 chip. This chip requires no external capacitors to generate the voltages required to meet RS-232 specifications. The capacitor used between pin 7 and ground is to reduce any electrical noise on the supply line, the design may well work without it. Connect the wire from pins 2 and 3 to the 3.5 mm plug tip to mack it compatible with the CI-V socket on the side and control with software. Use the circuit "as is" for PC to scanner cloning via the jack on the top of the radio.

Proof of the pudding

I have built this circuit and found it to work successfully with the Icom ic-r10 at 1200 baud. I have not tested it extensively, but the tests I did perform worked flawlessly.
