Info on
circuit
This design
utilises the Maxim MAX233 chip.
This chip requires no external capacitors to generate the voltages
required to meet RS-232 specifications. The capacitor used between pin 7
and ground is to reduce any electrical noise on the supply line, the
design may well work without it. Connect the wire from pins 2 and 3 to the
3.5 mm plug tip to mack it compatible with the CI-V socket on the side and
control with software. Use the circuit "as is" for PC to scanner cloning
via the jack on the top of the radio.
Proof of the
pudding
I have built this circuit and found it to work successfully with the
Icom ic-r10 at 1200 baud. I have not tested it extensively, but the tests
I did perform worked flawlessly.
disclaimer
Although I have not encountered any problems with this circuit at this
point, this is not to say that you will not. Use this circuit at your own
risk. This circuit may not operate safely or correctly to accommodate all
conceivable events that may occur during the normal operation of the
transceiver/receiver, computer, software, power supply, or other equipment
connected to, proximal to, or any other device that my influence the
circuit via any medium.
